The fateful mobile charger

                                                        "The fateful charger"

20th September,  2022 Tuesday, it was as usual as other days. The OPD patients attendance was less, it was not as busy as it used to be. Every department was  busy with their day to day activities...

At around 2.30pm code blue was announced in the pediatric department. Code blue is a term that is usually used to indicate a patient requiring resuscitation or otherwise in need of immediate  medical attention, most often as the result of a respiratory or cardiac arrest.

We became standstill....which child has been reported with cardiac arrest...?

At 2.30 pm it was reported that a child of age around 11 had come having electrification at home. He became unconscious after electrification and thus has come to the hospital. Burn injury was found in this left palm. The vitals were non responsive. Though the resuscitation team tried to save the child but.. could not,  the child was declared dead at 3pm. Parents were in shock.. We could not save the life of the child.

On enquiry it was found that the child was playing with a mobile hand set which was connected to a charger  and the mobile was in charging process. The child went to sleep after playing but the mobile hand set was still in his hand. One of the family members took the mobile handset, but some how the wire of the charger was left in his hand, current was still flowing through it. As it was a live wire the child got electrocuted. He had injury only in his palm, had no injury in his body.

When the child did not respond for sometime, parents rushed him to the hospital. When the child was brought to the hospitals, his vitals were non responsive.....and was declared dead.

Hence, as parents we should be careful:-

1.We should ensure that only branded chargers are used for charging our mobile handsets.

2. In case of misplacement/loss of chargers,  inferior quality charges should not be bought.

3. Mobile handsets should not be used when it is being charged.

4. Electrical switches/appliances should be switched off when not in use.

5. We should ensure that the wire of the charger is neither cut/torn.

6. Mobile hand sets use should be restricted during thunder, storm.

7. Electrical switches should be fitted beyond the reach of the children.

                     It is rightly said

"It is better to be safe than to be sorry."
