Housekeeping Week Celebrated at Marwari Hospitals - 26.09.2022 to 01.10.2022
Housekeeping in
hospitals may be defined as ‘providing a clean, comfortable, safe and
aesthetically appealing environment to the patients’. It is an operational
department which is responsible for
cleanliness, maintenance, aesthetic upkeep of patient care areas rooms and the
surroundings.
The housekeeping department not only turnarounds (prepares and clean patient care areas) on a timely manner, it maintains the cleanliness in the hospital so that patient care is not affected. The department's primary communications are with the nursing team.
The department also coordinates
closely with the maintenance or engineering department, as the housekeeping
staff identifies different types of maintenance issues while cleaning the
patient care areas and reports to the maintenance team for rectification or
replacement. Example snags or issue with the TV, AC, Heating unit, Plumbing,
Lighting, Electrical faults, Furniture, Toilet, Vanity, Tub, Towels racks,
Ventilation issues etc. It is one of the major 'Support Centre' as
it doesn't generate any major revenue.
Though Housekeeping is considered as thankless job, but in 1981, the IHEA, or the Integrated Environment and Health Assessment, officially sponsors the holiday and since then, it has spread globally as a week-long celebration for those who work in housekeeping. It is celebrated in the 2nd week of September. This year from 11th September to 17th September was celebrated as Housekeeping Week globally. This is the time to thank the housekeepers. There are different ways to thank them.We may thank them with a thank you note, take them for food or provide gifts.
