Time is a great healer

Got up little early today, as I had to rush to the office, the  deadline for the NABH Pre entry level application was approaching. Hardly few days were left in hand. Finished morning activities, packed tiffin and hurried to the office.

After reaching office we started our application related activities. some how we arranged to submit the documents required by the application.

The day was hectic, in the evening we had NABH Core Committee meeting also, we had to prepare for the same also. Since the meeting was conducted  after a gap we had to update ourselves as well as  prepare the Action Taken Report .

The meeting started as per schedule, attendance was encouraging. It was an interactive session. Many pending  issues were finalized.

After the meeting, it was informed that one of our ambulance driver Mr. Diganta Hira was injured badly and was taken to OT. We rushed to  OT with heavy heart and found that his OT procedure was over,  his index finger was fully amputed and the thumb finger was  partially amputed.

We could not believe our eyes, couple hours ago, he had come to the office as he had a small issue, I had assured him that necessary action will be taken.

On enquiry, it was found that,  a patient was supposed to be shifted through ambulance, so in order to facilitate  the oxygen  he was trying to replace the empty oxygen cylinder in the meantime blast took place. The exact cause is still uncertain. The blast had led to the injury leading to amputation of the fingers.

The officials, executive, staff were speechless, it was an irreparable loss, he had become partially handicapped. Doctor tried their level best and carried out the required procedure. The poor fellow has very young children along with his wife and an elderly mother, who is fighting cancer.

Being young he had dreams and passion to achieve big. And now, all his dreams has shattered, lying on the bed he was just uttering, "I am finished".

It is rightly said " It takes few seconds to change your destiny." We pray to almighty that "May god give him  enough courage to face this tough situation."

"Feel better soon

Hope you feel better soon

Hoping you find strength each new day

Have a speedy recovery"

On the very next day after reaching office I went to see him in HDU (High dependency Unit), he was mentally broken, devastated, his eyes were full of tears. His wife, his relatives had come to visit him. He became emotional. Myself and my colleague tried to make the environment little lighter. We made him understand that the incident which occurred might could have caused more injuries, so he should not be upset and should be thankful to god. We assured him that organization will try its level best to provide him the benefits for which he is eligible for.

He expressed his thankfulness towards the staff, who had showered their  love, care and affection for him. He also expressed his thankfulness towards the management for the help. He was happy for being associated with the hospital.

We came out of HDU assuring him to provide any help he required. We resumed our day to day activities.

On the third day, he was shifted to cabin as he showed little improvement. X-ray was done as he had to under go OT procedure.

On 4th day we met him again, he was with his beautiful broad smile , may be he had made himself understand & accepted the truth that he has lost his index finger, thumb finger partially and he has to live with it.

My husband also visited him after office , he was loved not only by the staff but also by the people who were associated with him someway or the other.

I just looked at him, a young man of 28years was confined to a single bed,  wife standing beside him trying to console him and urging not to break down. She was very strong by heart.

The five fingers of his right hand which helped in gripping the steering of four wheelers, his passion for long rides on two wheelers, no more possible. He was mentally  broken, tried to hide his pain  behind his smile but could not.

His life style would change after discharge from the hospital.

But as rightly said "Time is a great healer" Time will make him stronger and hope he would be able to live with it.

Let us pray for him...
