Cancer...the word  we are afraid of. We hardly want to associate this word with any of our loved ones, but it is spreading like forest fire. Government/ Private/ NGOs are taking steps to spread the awareness and take precautionary measures in this regard.

Cancer is the one of the leading cause of deaths worldwide. Cancer cases can be avoided with just a healthier lifestyle and about a third of all cancer cases can cured if detected early. As reported around 40 lakh cancer cases, has been detected  and  22.54 lakh deaths  has been reported in India in 3 years (2018 to 2020) Press Trust of India 11th February 2022:

Breast cancer remains a worldwide public health dilemma and is currently the most common tumour in the globe, it is life-threatening disease in females and the leading cause of mortality among women population. Awareness of breast cancer, public attentiveness, and advancement in breast imaging has made a positive impact on recognition and screening of breast cancer.

I remember one of my friend once rang me  and enquired about B.Barooah Cancer Institute, on query she stated that she had lump in her breast and doctor had diagnosed it as cancer. Treatment was done as it was early stage. She took radiation shots, now she has to visit the consultant for check up on regular intervals.

Another friend from Arunachal Pradesh informed that even she has lump in her breast and after treatment has been visiting doctor for regular check ups. They are leading a normal life.

One of my cousin had throat problem, he used to consume Gutkha, Beetle nut, Tobacco on regular basis later succumbed to throat cancer. Similarly my uncle  reported tooth ache and later suffered cancer and he also fell prey to it. If we look around in each and every family we will find one or two cases. It is high time that we take precautionary measure in this regard.

In keeping balance between work and home, often women neglect their health. But with the alarming rise in women related diseases, its time that they should spare time for themselves in keeping themselves fit. Regular health checkups should be done.

As far as cervical cancer is concerned more awareness is required among females. It is one of the most successfully treatable cancers. Efforts to reduce barriers to screening could greatly improve cervical cancer screening rates, particularly for disparate populations.

Dr. Sudha Agarwal (Gynaecologist), Marwari Hospitals highlighted the causes of  Breast Cancer, its precautionary measure, treatment whereas Dr. Pallabi Deka (Gynaecologist) Marwari Hospitals  highlighted on cervical cancer, its precautionary measures, vaccination &  treatments. Doctors, officials, nurses, executives attended the  programme.

Take away Message:

Cancer is a disease not a curse. Early detection may lead to successful treatment.

Beating Cancer is personal battle. It was one of the toughest opponents I have faced so far, and I think I did reasonably well. Touch Wood.  YUVRAJ SINGH
